I had two pregnancies and two caesareans. It took me a lot of work, patience, and guidance to be able to hold two girls (30lbs + each) on my back during a plank. I also believe that there is no endpoint and that every day is a chance to improve.
Prior to either pregnancy, I had some hip pain and saw a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist. Yes, there is such a thing, and yes, they do internal work too.
Then I got pregnant with my first daughter who was born in 2016. Overall, it was a painless, normally uncomfortable pregnancy. I even ran a half marathon and a 15k in my first four months. After she was born, it took a long time to lose the baby weight and feel like me again, but I was not left with any noticeable issues or complications. Looking back, I do not even know if I had a Diastasis Recti (DR) and have since learned, that I was doing a lot of things wrong to help myself physically.
I was still having trouble with my hip, but I was still running and lifting like normal. It was not getting worse, but it definitely wasn’t getting better. Just as I was getting ready to try and figure it out, I found out I was pregnant with my second in 2019. So, the hip went on hold (again). This pregnancy proved much different. I was not just leaking, I was dripping every time I coughed or sneezed, my back started hurting a lot sooner, and my hip was not happy. I had to stop running very early on but tried to keep up the strength for as long as possible.
My recovery with my second was so much easier because I never had to push or try and labor with her first. However, I was wrecked. My back was killing me, my hip hurt, I had a diastasis recti, and when I started working out again I was weak! I could not even change her diaper or lay her in the crib without my back killing me, and often it would continue to hurt for days after. I went to my primary care doctor, and she proceeded to send me to another Pelvic Floor PT. It was here that a whole new world was opened to me. I learned about DR and the importance of my Pelvic Floor. However, my hip was still hurting, and decided I needed to take matters into my own hands. So, I did some research and came across the Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist course. I began the course selfishly; I wanted my hip and back to stop hurting. The course helped me immensely, my back barely hurts anymore, my hip barely hurts anymore and if either of them hurt now, I can stop it in its tracks and fix it.
I also realized there is a severe lack of information for moms. I was seeing more and more of friends and family posting about their complications and issues after having kids, I was hearing more laughing and joking about leaking, and I also saw a complete lack of knowledge in the care I received. So now I want to make sure as many women as possible can have the information and knowledge that I do, and I want to help prevent anything that may lead to complications and problems for as many moms as I can. So here is Moms Fit Life!
