Asking for Help: The Ultimate Strength Move

Asking for Help: The Ultimate Strength Move

You weren't meant to do this alone. Learn why asking for help is essential for your physical and mental postpartum recovery.

There is a dangerous myth in our culture that the "strongest" moms are the ones who do it all alone. We celebrate the woman who is back at the gym two weeks postpartum, baby in tow, looking like she hasn't missed a beat. But as a professional movement specialist, when I see that, I don't see "strength"—I see a massive risk for long-term injury and burnout.

Asking for help isn't a sign that you’re "broken" or that you can't handle motherhood. It’s a sign that you are a smart, high-achieving individual who understands that recovery is a team sport.

Your "Village" is Your Rehab

Regardless of how fit you were before you had kids, your body has physical limits right now. If you are trying to "power through" the heavy lifting, the house cleaning, and the sleepless nights without support, you are putting a massive strain on a healing pelvic floor.

  • The Physical Lift: If a car seat or a stroller feels "heavy" in your pelvis, let someone else carry it. That’s not being "lazy"; that’s protecting yourself from prolapse.
  • The Sleep Connection: Sleep is when your body actually repairs tissue. If you aren't getting rest, your "360 breathing" and core work will only take you so far. Asking your partner or a friend to take the baby so you can nap is a medical necessity for your recovery.

Professional Help is Still Help

Asking for help also means seeking out experts. If you feel "heaviness," if you’re still leaking, or if your back is constantly aching, don't just wait for it to go away. Reach out to a Pelvic Floor PT or a specialist like me. You wouldn't try to fix your own car's transmission by watching a 30-second TikTok; don't try to DIY your internal recovery. Building your village—both personal and professional—is the fastest way to get back to the version of you that feels capable and strong.
